Tobogganing
Hop on and race down: Tobogganing fun starts right at the mountain station on Weissenstein. Whether it’s a thrilling ride down to Oberdorf or a leisurely glide through the snowy forest towards Gänsbrunnen – two varied routes invite you to enjoy winter delights. Toboggans can be rented at the cable car mountain station.
Nidlenloch cave tour
Just a few minutes’ walk from Weissenstein, an extraordinary adventure begins: the guided Nidlenloch cave tour. Through narrow passages, ladders, and spacious chambers, the tour lasts around 3 to 5 hours through the intricate cave system. It is suitable for beginners aged 10 and up with normal fitness levels and a desire for discoveries off the beaten path. Tours run from mid-April to early December.
Cross-country skiing
Just below Hotel Weissenstein, you’ll find a cross-country ski trail approximately 4 km long – groomed for classic skiing and prepared for skating. The route runs across the sunny high plateau between Sennhaus and Hinter-Weissenstein, delighting with gentle climbs, fresh mountain air, and wide panoramas. The trail is open from December to early March, weather permitting.
Biketrail Weissenstein
Whether you’re an experienced rider or a sporty beginner, the trail offers smooth lines, technical sections, and fast stretches that perfectly combine fun and challenge. Accompanied by magnificent views of the Alps and the Swiss Plateau, the route leads straight down to Oberdorf. Fancy another run? The cable car conveniently takes you back to the starting point.
Hermelin Trail
The Hermelin Trail starts just a few steps from Hotel Weissenstein and winds through the diverse landscape of Weissenstein as a thoughtfully designed puzzle path. Along approximately four kilometres, animal figures and interactive stations accompany young and old on an entertaining quest for clues. Perfect for families and anyone wanting to explore Weissenstein in a playful way.
Hiking
Weissenstein is made for explorers: gentle high-altitude trails, shady forest paths, and stunning panoramic routes combine activity with breathtaking views. Whether a leisurely walk to Hinter-Weissenstein, an inspiring ridge trail, or a challenging ascent from Oberdorf – there’s a favourite route for everyone here.
Solothurn Old Town
In just a few minutes, the cable car takes you down to Oberdorf, from where you can continue your journey comfortably by train directly to Solothurn’s Old Town. Narrow lanes, baroque façades, historic squares, and quaint boutiques invite you to stroll and explore. Discover the famous St. Ursen Cathedral, visit one of the charming museums, or enjoy coffee and culture by the Aare river.
Planet trail
The Planet Trail on Weissenstein brings the solar system to life at a scale of 1:1 billion – step by step, planet by planet. Along the approximately six-kilometre route from Weissenstein to Untergrenchenberg, you journey through the vastness of space, with fascinating information about the Sun, Earth, Mars and more at each station. An educational and visually stunning walk – perfect for families, school groups, or anyone who still loves to be amazed.
Juragarten
The Jura Garden is a lovingly designed alpine garden located right by the mountain station on Weissenstein. It showcases the impressive plant diversity of the Jura region in a compact space – from rare alpine flowers to typical dry habitats. Informative panels make the tour an engaging nature experience for both young and old. A visit is especially worthwhile in spring and summer when the garden is in full bloom and nature displays its richness.
