Swisstainable is a Swiss sustainability programme from the tourism sector for the tourism sector. Its focus is the sustainable development of Switzerland as a tourist destination. Participation in the sustainability programme is open to all tourism companies and organisations in Switzerland.

Social
We support and challenge our employees, aim to provide long-term job security, and enable everyone to share in the success of Hotel Weissenstein. In addition, we offer free cable car tickets and a dedicated staff shuttle to ensure a smooth and convenient commute.

Economic
we choose to work with local suppliers and service providers. In doing so, we reduce unnecessary journeys and contribute to the economic success of the region.

Environmental
We use a wood chip heating system fueled by timber from the surrounding forests and operate a modern photovoltaic system. The photovoltaic system alone has saved 21,285 kg of CO₂ emissions (as of May 2025) – equivalent to the CO₂ absorption of 635 planted trees.

Sustainability projects at Hotel Weissenstein

To further reduce our environmental footprint, we are involved in ambitious sustainability projects.

  • 2025: establishment of a bee colony in the Juragarten with the aim of producing our own honey
  • 2025: ibex fairstay certification and Swisstainable Level III
  • 2025: in close collaboration between management and apprentices, a small garden is being created. The goal is to provide hands-on understanding of seasonality and natural cycles – while also bringing ingredients from our own cultivation directly to our guests’ plates.
  • 2025: setup of a kiosk offering local and homemade products and delicacies

The Metzgerei Fischer butcher’s shop in Langendorf supplies us with fine charcuterie.

Fresh vegetables from the region

Familie Siragusa

The Siragusa family from Bellach provides us with vegetables and fruit directly from the Milan market or from local vegetable growers.

Langendorf cheese dairy supplies cheese

Chäsi Längedorf

To be honest, we’ve fallen a little in love with the Chäsi Längedorf cheesemonger. So, you can also expect to find one or two cheeses from their extensive range on our menu.

Rudolfs Freilandeier (‘Rudolf’s free-range eggs’) from Selzach have known for over 30 years that only happy chickens lay good eggs.
